Sons and Lovers is a novel written by D. H. Lawrence and published in 1913. The book follows the life of Paul Morel, a young man who is torn between his love for his mother and his desire for independence. Paul's mother, Gertrude, is a strong-willed woman who has devoted her life to her children, but who also has a complicated relationship with her husband, Walter. As Paul grows older, he becomes increasingly aware of his mother's influence on his life and struggles to break free from her grasp. Along the way, he falls in love with two women, Miriam and Clara, but is unable to fully commit to either of them due to his unresolved feelings towards his mother. The novel explores themes of love, family, sexuality, and the struggle for personal identity. It is widely regarded as one of Lawrence's most important works and a masterpiece of modernist literature.1913. Controversial English novelist, short-story writer, poet and essayist, Lawrence is known for his frequently misunderstood, but basically idealistic theories about sexual relations and for his interest in primitive religions and nature mysticism. Lawrence regarded sex, the primitive subconscious, and nature as cures for what he considered modern man's maladjustment to industrial society. His philosophy, life history and prejudices are inextricably entwined in his writings. Sons and Lovers is a partly autobiographical novel which deals with the author's boyhood and adolescence as the son of a coal miner. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
