Nigel Slater is the author of Real Fast Food, Real Fast Puddings, The 30-Minute Cook, Real Good Food, Real Cooking and Nigel Slater's Real Food Which won a Glenfiddich Award. Real Fast Food was shortlisted fir the Andre Simon Award, the 30-Minute Cook was nominated for both the Glenfiddich and Julia Child Awards. In 1995 he won the Glenfiddich Trophy and he has twice won the Cookery Writer of the Year Award as well as being named Media Personality of the Year in the 1996 Good Food Awards. He is Food Correspondent for the Observer and writes a monthly column for Sainsbury's Magazine.

Part 1 Bakery goods and drinks: croissants with apple puree and creme fraiche to bagels with lox. Part 2 Eggs: boiled eggs to chakchouka. Part 3 Fish: fresh fish - cod in crumbs to pan-fried salmon with capers and vinegar; shellfish - mussels with cream and herbs to scallops with coriander and lime butter; smoked fish - hot kipper toasts to smoked salmon with warm pasta; canned fish - sardine sandwiches to tuna with haricot beans, tomato and chilli. Part 4 Pasta: pasta with whole garlic, goat's cheese and thyme to Dolcelatte Gnocchi. Part 5 Vegetables and salads: aubergines - grilled aubergine with chick pea puree to pesto aubergine; avocados - guacamole to sprouted salad with avocado dressing; beans and peas - broad beans with ham to peas with fettuccine, basil and pumpkin seeds; greens - spinach with blue cheese and pasta to Brussels sprouts in a creamy mustard dressing; mushrooms - grilled herbed field mushrooms to mushroom beignets; peppers - red peppers and black olive conchiglie to grilled peppers with balsamic vinegar; potatoes - mash to walnut oil and new potato saute; salad accompaniments and dressings; tomatoes - tomato stew to eggs baked in tomatoes. Part 6 Grains, lentils and beans: grains - plum tabbouleh to date and pistachio cous cous; lentils and beans - hot brown lentils with mint to white beans with tarragon and cream. Part 7 Chicken: plain grilled chicken to turkey, hot bacon and chutney sandwich. Part 8 Meat: lamb - chump chops with yoghurt and mint to souvlakia; pork - pork and pears to porc au poivre; beef - tuscan steak to sloppy joes. Part 9 Cheese: Welsh rabbit to deep-fried mozzarella. Part 10 Fruit: apples and pears - steamed apples with butter sauce to pan-fried apple and cheese salad; bananas - date and banana cream to hot banana brioche; Citrus fruits - citrus fruits with honey to foil-baked oranges; damsons; figs - figs with parma ham to figs with navel oranges; peaches - peaches with basil to white peaches with Beaumes de Venise; pineapples; plums; scarlet fruits, and berries - raspberries with ricotta to ten-minute trifle.
