Recovered Memory

Author(s): Lara Strongman

New Zealand

The exhibition "Recovered Memory" brought together new and recent paintings, sculpture, installation and videl work by nine leading New Zealand artists - each exploring ways in which visual images can express psychological concerns. An insightful essay by Curator Lara Strongman outlines the concepts and context of the exhibition, touching on themes of memory, perspective and the perpetual. This is complemented by clinincal psychologist Averil Overton's writing on human subjectivity and introspection using Jungian psychological theory to expand upon the themes in "Recovered Memory". The artists featured are: Steve Carr, Liyen Chong, Kah Bee Chow, Scott Flanagan, Seraphine Pick, Marie Shannon, Ann Shelton, Yvonne Todd and Ronnie van Hout.
