In 1931, during a wild afternoon's ride, Alice, a white station owner makes a tentative pact with her Aboriginal head stockman, Jim, to hand her land back to him and his people. An unfortunate accident prevents it from happening, and noone learns of their mutual understanding; and Alice and her pioneering father's records of the Yirralong people's occupation of the land are lost.
